Fire safety in ventilation systems
Paroc is now relaunching its range of mesh mats for ventilation ducts and offers updated EI30 and EI60 solutions to today's fire requirements. With improved BlackCoat products and an integrated 3-in-1 mat for circular ducts, the industry gets a modern solution that combines fire, condensation and thermal insulation in one system.
Ventilation ducts are critical when it comes to fire safety in buildings. Without proper insulation, ducts can spread fire and smoke quickly between fire cells. Buildings must be designed and executed in such a way as to achieve satisfactory safety in the event of a fire, and this includes ventilation systems.
Paroc has extensive experience in stone wool insulation and is now back in the ventilation market with a complete range of mesh mats for fire insulation of both circular and rectangular ducts.
Paroc solutions for ventilation ducts
Paroc offers products that cover the most common fire requirements in Norwegian construction projects. The range includes EI30 and EI60 solutions as well as a modern all-in-one mat for circular channels.
- Paroc Vect Wired Mat BlackCoat EI30 or EI60 – 60-80 mm
- Paroc Vect Mat BlackCoat EI60 – 100 mm (3-i-1-solutions)
1. Paroc Vect Wired Mat BlackCoat EI30 – 60mm
Specifications
- Thickness: 60 mm
- Brannklasse: EI30
- Reaction to fire: A2-s1,d0
- Temperature resistance: Up to 250 °C
- Nominal density: 80 kg/m³
When is EI30 used?
Common for standard ventilation ducts in office buildings, technical rooms and less critical fire sections.
What does EI30 mean?
E = integrity (eights), I = insulation, EI30 = minimum 30 minutes fire resistance
2. Paroc Vect Wired Mat BlackCoat EI60 – 80mm
Specifications:
- Thickness: 80 mm
- Brannklasse: EI60
- Reaction to fire: A2-s1,d0
- Temperature resistance: Up to 250 °C
- Nominal density: 90 kg/m³
- Approved suspension distance (circular channels): up to 1.8 meters
When is EI60 used?
EI60 is used on main routing routes, ducts crossing fire cells, taller buildings, technical rooms and public buildings such as hospitals, schools, hotels and shopping malls.
3. Paroc Vect Mat BlackCoat EI60 – 100 mm (all-in-one solution)
This is Paroc's all-in-one mat – a 3-in-1 product that combines fire insulation, condensation protection and thermal insulation in one layer.
Replaces the traditional two-layer solution
Ventilation ducts are often insulated with a mesh mat on the inside for fire resistance, and then a lamella mat on the outside for condensation and thermal insulation.
Paroc Vect Mat BlackCoat EI60 now brings together all three functions in one mat. The result is faster installation, lower costs and fewer sources of error.
Properties:
- Brannisolering (EI60)
- Kondensbeskyttelse (BlackCoat vanndampbarriere)
- Lagging
- Aesthetic black finish
Technical data:
- Thickness: 100 mm
- Reaction to fire: A2-s1,d0
- Nominal density: 60 kg/m³
- Temperature resistance: Up to 250 °C
Why stone wool in ventilation ducts?
Fire safety
- Euroclass A1/A2 (non-flammable)
- The fibers can withstand temperatures above 1000 °C
- Does not contribute to the spread of fire
Insulation properties
- Good thermal insulation
- Reduced risk of condensation
- Moisture resistant
- Women's Coated Fabric (Excluding BlackCoat Products)
Acoustics
Stone wool dampens noise and vibrations from ventilation systems.
Environment and sustainability
Stone wool is made from up to 97% stone and can be recycled repeatedly without losing performance
Installation and applications
Paroc mesh mats are designed for easy, secure and efficient mounting on both rectangular and circular channels. The mesh keeps the insulation in place and ensures even coverage.
Typical applications:
- Office and commercial buildings
- Shopping malls and public buildings
- Hospitals and healthcare facilities
- Schools and educational buildings
- Hotels and restaurants
- Industrial buildings
Launch and availability
Paroc relaunched the range after the summer of 2025. This marks Paroc's return to the ventilation market with a modernised, complete and documented range of fire insulation products.
Technical standards and approvals
Paroc products for ventilation ducts are tested and classified according to:
- EN 13501-3: Fire resistance in ventilation ducts
- EN 13501-1: Reaction to Fire
- EN 1366-1: Fire Resistance Test of Ventilation Ducts
- EN 14303: Product Standard for Technical Insulation
