Cellular glass is an inorganic material consisting of millions of hydrocarbon-filled glass cells. This closed structure provides excellent insulating properties.

For applications where there is a risk of corrosion under the insulation (CUI), Foamglas has developed Terostat Spacer. This is a so-called spacer that prevents water from coming into direct contact with pipes.
Small blocks are attached to the inside of the insulation and create a space between the insulation and the pipe. Water that condenses on the pipe will then run to the lowest point and drain away via drain plugs on the underside.
Terostat Spacer products also have soundproofing properties.
Foamglas in cold preservation
If a pipeline with liquefied gas is exposed to the humidity on the outside of the pipe, it will have critical consequences. With a temperature down to -190 degrees C, violent ice floes will form on the pipe.
With its extreme temperature range, from -265 to +430 degrees C, Foamglas is very well suited to insulating pipelines in LNG plants. Foamglas is often used in combination with e.g. Multi foil, cellular rubber and Fyrewrap for complete pipe insulation, to prevent cold bridging.
Foamglas in frost protection
Foamglas is also excellent as frost protection in harsh environments. On offshore installations, fire water pipes are a critical component where ice crystals must be prevented from forming in the water. Foamglas' waterproof and insulating properties make it particularly suitable for such applications. Foamglas is certified for ISO classes 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.
